When will Fairville Friends School Preschool Open?

We fully intend to open our preschool program at some point this school year. Unfortunately, community spread is continuing throughout Chester County. The Governor changed the guidance for schools to emphasize that “[d]istancing is fundamental to lowering the risk of spread of COVID-19,” and therefore that schools should create practices that provide for six feet of separation between students and staff “to the maximum extent feasible.” In the face of rising rates of infection and without a clear understanding about the role young children play in the spread of the virus, we are not prepared to open our preschool on August 31st. The Head of School along with the Board of Trustees will continue to monitor the guidance and numbers.

Is it possible some classes will begin before others?

We recognize that some of the most important mitigation strategies are more difficult to put in place in our younger classes, and may open older classrooms first. We are closely monitoring community infection rates and are eager to see what happens as other schools reopen. We will also continue to asses the needs of our enrolled families. We will provide each class with at least two weeks notice before their classroom or the school opens.

Is Fairville Friends School opening Kindergarten this year?

Yes! We feel kindergarten aged children are more likely to keep their masks on and are more capable of maintaining six-feet of separation. Kindergarten will begin on September 8th with a reduced schedule. The length of day will continue to be monitored and our hope is we will add more time as community spread decreases.

Will Fairville Friends School provide any supplemental learning materials for our children while closed?

We would love to able to support learning at home. If you are interested in materials supported by the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship while supporting your child’s learning, please send an email to info@fairvillefriends.org.

Am I expected to pay my child’s tuition?

We tried to anticipate many possible COVID-related scenarios in creating both the elastic calendar and the tuition reimbursement policy. However, we did not contemplate beginning the year with virtual instruction and do not think that is productive with preschool children. We do see value in remaining connected virtually once we have created community within each classroom, but we’re just not there yet. Your deposit holds your child’s spot, and no tuition is due at this time. When we are able to open your child’s class, we will present a new tuition schedule that better reflects the program we are able to offer.
